ANNOUNCEMENT

Tango Smileys Extended has been placed on hold. I’d like to start by apologizing to everyone who is waiting on specific features to be added to TSE. I know I said (some of) these updates are on the way, but I need to take a break. What started out as a fun little project became more and more like work to me, and I’m really not interested in having a second job right now. Big Frown

This does not mean that I am not going to pick up the project again. It simply means that I’m taking a break and I will return to adding new features when I feel like it. It may be a month, or it may be a week. Either way, I’m not setting a timetable for my return. Waiting

I WILL STILL BE OFFERING SUPPORT!

Offering support was never a problem before, and I don’t expect it to be a problem now. Please, by all means, contact me with any issues you may be having and I will reply as soon as possible. Grin

ANNOUNCEMENT

It’s been a while between updates, but the new version of TSE is now out.

Nothing major, just a bugfix and a few improvements.

You can get Tango Smileys Extended 2.5.2.7 here, and get more information here.

I ran into a problem today and I had such a hard time finding a solution that I decided to post some help for anyone who has the same issue.

I had a small issue with my new wireless dongle that was causing it to disconnect from my router and become unable to reconnect to the same router without being reset – [disconnected|disabled] and [reconnected|re-enabled] – but it always happened while I was at work. This meant that I could not access my computer until I got home, and I could not access the internet until I reset the dongle.

I decided my best course of action would be to add a task to the Task Scheduler which would detect the error and disable then re-enable the dongle, thus fixing the problem without requiring my interaction. There was, however, one small hitch: Task Scheduler cannot interact directly with devices, and there is no built-in command line controller for the Device Manager in Vista.

This new issue led me to search for a command line interface for the Device Manager, and as luck would have it I found one. DevCon. And as my luck would have it, it is available for x86 and ia64 platforms only. Since ia64 is not the same as x64, and the x86 version cannot interact directly with x64 devices, I had come to a brick wall. Fortunately, I’m a resourceful person, and I found – through no small feat, I might add – an x64 version of DevCon. I now make this version of DevCon available to you. For information on the usage of DevCon, please refer to the Microsoft documentation page here. Continue to the file »

I’ve been really excited about my new computer, but I’ve spent so much time playing with it that I haven’t had time to post anything about it – other than the fact that I got a new computer. Check out the specs »

I would like to start by apologizing to everyone who requested assistance with TSE during my absence these last 17 days. An unfortunate turn of events took place on March 12th that left me without a computer and internet access until today. A capacitor decided to explode on my motherboard and took my northbridge with it. (Yes, it decided to explode. It was conspiring against me.)

I just finished building my new computer and getting the basics installed, and this post is the first thing I’ve decided to do before continuing with setting up the rest of the computer.

Now, to the problems at hand:

The issue that people are having with the CTI for Tango Smileys Extended is partly my fault in the wording I used to explain how to insert the CTI into the comments.php file. Here is the better explained way to add the CTI to your comments.php file:

  1. Open your comments.php file.
  2. Find the comment textarea, which should look something like <textarea name="comment" id="comment"></textarea>
  3. If you want the CTI smileys above the textarea, type <?php tse_cti_anywhere(); ?> before the textarea.
  4. If you want the CTI smileys below the textarea, type <?php tse_cti_anywhere(); ?> after the textarea.
  5. Save your comments.php file.

The extra stuff that I listed in my original instructions was for people who wanted to use the CTI smileys with other plugins, and is not needed to add the CTI smileys to the comments.

Hope this helps!
