I’ve been really excited about my new computer, but I’ve spent so much time playing with it that I haven’t had time to post anything about it – other than the fact that I got a new computer.

The new:

  • Cooler Master Centurion 590 case with (5) 120mm fans and (1) 80mm fan
  • Raidmax 850W Modular PSU
  • ASUS M4A79 Deluxe motherboard with 7.1 audio and gigabit lan onboard
  • AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz Black Edition processor
  • XIGMATEK Dark Knight Black Nickel CPU Heatsink and 120mm fan
  • OCZ Platinum Edition 4x2GB PC2 6400 (DDR2 800) RAM
  • BFG Tech nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ 1GB PCI-E 2.0 x16 video card
  • Samsung Spinpoint 1TB 7200RPM SATA HDD
  • LG 22X SATA DVD±RW burner
  • Windows Vista Ultimate x64
  • Kubuntu 8.10 x64

The old:

  • Generic 19″ LCD monitor (1280×1024 native)
  • Logitech 5.1 surround speakers
  • WesternDigital 250GB USB2.0 HDD
  • Seagate FreeAgent 320GB USB2.0 HDD

My official burn-in test consisted of running (and beating) Bioshock at its highest settings, then running (and beating) Crysis x64 at 1280×1024 on high with 2XAA with a 38FPS average – 28FPS low / 84FPS high. Windows fully boots in 26 seconds with 82 processes at startup. Kubuntu takes slightly longer with its hardware parsing, and clocks in at 48 seconds for full boot. There’s probably a way to speed this up, but I don’t care enough to put the effort in. Wink

I waited a long time to have a setup like this, and I’m enjoying every second of it! Dance
