You lure me in with your well written ideas turned TV gold, the sci-fi threads spun and woven tightly producing the black bag that is pulled over my head as I’m taken someplace from which I can’t return – and I’m not sure I want to leave anyway. You tease me with the promise of more to come, as Firefly is dancing across the pleasure center of my brain, and FOX heaves the axe – cutting loose the thread keeping me entangled in your story lines – and Firefly is extinguished. I am left sore, feeling betrayed and forsaken.

Then, Serenity arrives as Firefly reborn, bringing an idea of closure to the things left unsaid in Firefly. Soon, the light of the big screen is replaced by the smaller set of my television and DVD player as I replay the scenes in my own home, returned to where I once enjoyed Firefly.

But I know these scenes, all by heart. No longer do I feel virginal while watching, as I’ve grown fond of reciting the lines of the characters in unison. I know what they are going to say next, even before they say it. I long for the days where adventure lay ahead, and each week brought new life to the characters and a further unfolding of the story. Those were the days.

Now you tempt me with a new lure. You dangle a new series in my face, waiting for me to bite, knowing that it is nearly impossible for me to resist. Dollhouse is tempting and illicitly provocative. You know you had me at Eliza Dushku.

Still, I’m afraid. Dollhouse is a psychological sci-fi series, too smart for the common reality-TV-watching sheeple needed to draw the larger numbers, and FOX has cut you loose before. They rearranged and dictated the flow of Firefly, and you seem ready to forgive them for that. Am I to expect the same with Dollhouse? I need reassurance, yet still you tempt me.

But this time I will fight you. I will give you the best five minute struggle you have ever seen. I will rationalize and resist for all 600 seconds before finally giving in and admitting defeat. In a few minutes, Dollhouse will premier, and I will curse you as you draw me in again. Don’t you break my heart, or I will not be so forgiving next time.

Damn you, Joss Whedon. Damn you.

One of the most aggravating things someone like me can endure is the constant demise of the English language, brought about by the introduction and acceptance of modern slang by mainstream culture. Every time I turn on the TV or watch a movie, I’m reminded that writers pander to the masses, and the masses are slang-slinging idiots.

I can accept slang as part of every day life, in moderation, but somehow it became gauche to speak properly. Now slang has run rampant and become the predominant element of communication. Well, excuse me for my sentence structure and proper use of words actually found in a dictionary.

I’m not saying that I’m completely above it. I have been known to utter slang in brief moments of verbal diarrhea, or in my habitual use of the word “dude” – which I’ve made a valiant effort to abate using it, or even when making a joke in the imitation of slang-slinging simians. I am not perfect, nor do I expect anyone else to be. That is why I have a tolerance for slang. Do not mistake this for an acceptance, however.

You may be wondering what inspired this post. What could have happened that sparked this outburst? Let me explain.

I’ve recently started watching the Starz series Crash. After having seen the movie back in 2004, I found out that it was originally written to be a TV series. So, when the series was announced, I was quite excited to see what would be done with the story. Unfortunately, Crash airs Friday nights, and I’m almost always working then. I had to catch up on the previous episodes, which led me to watching the first five episodes over this weekend, and then watching the sixth episode earlier today. The sixth episode is what got to me.

For those of you who have not watched the sixth episode, or any other episode of the series, please do not let the following text deter you. Truthfully, I’m enjoying the show, but the dialogue from a single scene is so terrible that I had to post it. I’ve tried to get the text right, so I’ve written it the way it was spoken. The dialogue is between Anthony and his friend Kief? and is as follows:

Keif: I know you fillin’ it. You was out here makin’ dat guap. Drivin’ limos and hangin’ wit rappers and shit.

Anthony: Yeah, it would have been the bomb job if our boy hadn’t nutted up.

Keif: He ain’t no imigrant, is he?

Anthony: Whatchu talkin ’bout fool?

Keif: I’m sayin’. We need to go out there and gank this fool for the ched he owe you. You wantcho bread, homie, you gotta take it.

Anthony: Hell naw, man. We can’t do that.

Keif: Why not? You said he was paid!

Anthony: He is, man.

Keif: You said he got so much bread, man, stashed in jelly jars all around his crib, he don’t know how much he got. We already in the car. Let’s just roll over there and see what’s good.

Anthony: You mean case the joint?

Keif: Shit. If it’s gravy, we on. And if it’s not, den we jus chill. Dude, you don’t owe Ben. He owe you! What about those masters? He prolly done sold dem mo’ fuckus.

Anthony: Man, look. Nigga, you don’t think the cops gonna suspect the disgruntled black employee? Come on, man.

Keif: Man, we can go over yo’ uncle shop right afterward. It’s the perfect alibi. Nigga, you forget. Ben Cendars owe you!

Really? What the fuck just happened?

I read some news going around that Pushing Daisies got the axe from ABC, but this is not true. Yet. According to Kristin Dos Santos of E!, Pushing Daisies simply has not been given the order to fill the back nine of episodes of the season. Where episode 13 was meant to be a two-part episode concluding with episode 14, producers have been told to make episode 13 stand-alone so it may serve as the series finale in the event that the last nine episodes are not ordered.

Via E!Online:

The current rumor being spread is that Daisies producers were told by ABC to treat episode 13 (which begins filming Monday) as a series finale, which some fans have interpreted as definitive news that the network decided to cancel the series.

Not true, say my sources. Producers have not yet been told whether they will receive a pickup for the remaining nine episodes of the current second season, and that is still a possibility.

However, it is true that producers were asked to change the plan for the 13th episode, which initially was a two-parter, with payoff in the 14th episode. ABC told producers to make number 13 a stand-alone episode and to “cover all bases,” meaning that the episode should be able to serve as either a series finale or a launch pad into the final nine episodes of season two.

While the final scene of episode 13 would be a powerful final image of the series (it involves Charlotte Charles), I’m told there will be many storyline threads left unanswered, and trust me, you fans will not be happy if you don’t get those back nine and the resolution to those stories.

Network sources at ABC tell me that the call on Daisies’ fate might not come for a few weeks, as the decision-makers want to see how viewing patterns shift after the election on Tuesday.

The good news? Last night’s episode was up a million viewers.

I happen to be one of the fans of this show, so I would definitely not be happy if Pushing Daisies didn’t get the order for the rest of the season.

If you haven’t yet seen Pushing Daisies, you’re missing out. It’s the story of boy loves girl, girl dies, boy brings girl back to life, boy and girl can never touch again or girl will die again forever. Sound strange to you? You’ll have to watch the show to understand!

I’ve decided that Showtime On Demand is the shit.

I started watching Californication to see if it was as good as the other Showtime series that I watch. I have to say, it’s not quite as good as Dexter, in my opinion, but it is definitely funnier than Weeds.

I watched the whole first season on Showtime On Demand, and as I scrolled down the list I noticed that episode 12 was listed as the season finale, but there was an episode 13 listed!

Could it be? Could they have accidentally added the season two premier to the On Demand list before it actually premiers?!?

INDEED, THEY DID!

Now, I’ve checked the On Demand list tonight – one day before the season two premier – and now there’s an EPISODE 14 listed!

The only thing that could make me happier is if they accidentally added the first episode of season three of Dexter. Thanks to DVD Screeners, however, I’ve already seen the first episode.

So, if you have Showtime On Demand and you watch Californication, check out the first two episodes of season two. I’m not sure if the additions are limited to BrightHouse Networks, but I’m almost certain that it’s not.
