I’ve been sitting on this update for a while because I wanted to really make it worth downloading, but now it’s ready!
The 24px smileys, which were previously available by download-and-replace only, are now included standard. To use the new 24px smileys, just select the option on the TSE Options page. I also updated the tinyMCE popup so it would automatically keep up-to-date with new smiley additions. A couple of bugs were also fixed in this update.

Tango Smileys Extended 2.6.0.1 brings the minimum version requirement of WordPress up to 2.8 and offers many optimizations over the previous version of TSE.
- The newly revamped options page is now significantly faster and more secure.
- TSE can now be cleanly uninstalled (all options are removed from the database).
- Smileys now have tooltips!
As always, you can get more information on Tango Smileys Extended 2.6.0.1 here, and you can download your own copy here.
I write a lot of the plugins I use on this site, but I don’t really make them public. I decided that even if I didn’t add them to the WordPress.org plugin repository, it would be selfish of me to not share them here, so I decided to start releasing these custom plugins for public consumption.
Below, you’ll find a couple of the new plugins that I’ve uploaded to this site, along with links to documentation and downloads. If you have any issues using any of the plugins, please leave a comment on the appropriate pages.
- Faviconize: Add favicons to the WordPress frontend (user view) and backend (admin).
- Simple Bot Registration Protection: Protect your WordPress installation from most invalid user registrations – usually created by bots.
And, of course, you can also find my widely available plugin Tango Smileys Extended, and my previously made available plugin Gravatar Enhanced Recent Comments.
I still have a few plugins to release, so check back soon for more goodies!
I need to find a better tool for writing plugins – or any PHP for that matter, because a small typo in a key name broke the comment CTI for the previous version.
I don’t know how I missed it when I was testing!
Anyway, version 2.5.6.1 fixes the issue that was created in 2.5.6.0, so users should update to the newest version as soon as possible. I’m sorry to anyone who had an issue with the previous version.
You can get Tango Smileys Extended 2.5.6.1 here, and get more information here.
In continuing my improvements of TSE, I present version 2.5.6.0.
TSE can be disabled on Posts and/or Pages, the CTI interface is only loaded on pages that can use it (saves tons of memory), and other enhancements have been added to increase performance.

I’ve hit a few snags over the course of the past two weeks and decided to make some enhancements to make myself feel better.
First, the snags:
I was so angry with the performance and hassle of Windows Vista that I decided to switch to Windows 7. After reinstalling all of my old software and getting everything set the way it was in Vista, I proceeded to hack Windows 7 the same way I hacked Vista. Unfortunately, that didn’t work, so I ended up with an OS that crashed every 26 seconds when I tried to empty the recycle bin. As much fun as that was, I figured I should reinstall Windows 7 to fix the damage I had done. When that didn’t work, I blindly reformatted and reinstalled from scratch. As it turns out, I’m an idiot, and I forgot to save a copy of the PocketPress source code. I lost everything. So, now, I’m going to have to start PocketPress from scratch – and this pisses me off a little.
And now, the enhancements:
The comments on Tango Smileys Extended are several pages long now, so I find myself answering the same questions over and over. Since comments are obviously not the best way to offer support, I’ve decided to add a support forum. I’m working on adding some basic topics to the forum, and I’ll add a link later.
