I’ve decided to extend the functionality of my WordPress installation by writing my own plugins. My plugins and information for each are listed below.
- Tango Smileys Extended: Replaces the standard WP smileys with a custom smiley set based on Tango, and extends the available smileys from 18 to 186. View the ToDo list here.
- Gravatar Enhanced Recent Comments: An enhanced version of the standard WP Recent Comments widget, complete with Gravatars for comment authors. This is a private public release. I have decided not to release this plugin through WordPress.org for now, but I have made it available for download on the GERC page here.
- Faviconize: Add favicons to the WordPress frontend (user view) and backend (admin).
- Simple Bot Registration Protection: Protect your WordPress installation from most invalid user registrations – usually created by bots.
- Iconified Taxonomies: Add icons to a post’s tag and/or category list.

can the smilies be made bigger just a bit. or can one set up the plugin to load a new set?
If you’re still interested, I’m working on getting the original smiley set, which was 24×24 instead of the current 16×16 smileys. It would require minor editing of the plugin to use the larger smileys, but I can make it happen if you would like.
Time for a silly question. I installed the plugin and selected the settings. I see no evidence of the smilies anywhere on my site. There are no images nor a list of keystrokes that create a smilie. Where can I find either?
It’s not a silly question, and you haven’t missed anything. Right now, the plugin requires that you type each smiley in by hand – at least until Friday or so when I release the update – but for now, the full list of smiley shorthand is on the TSE page here.
You can also click the Emotion button if you have TinyMCE Advanced installed, which will let you input the standard 18 smileys – which will appear on your posts as the Tango Smileys – but all of the extended smileys have to be entered in by hand for now.
Thanks, for making me feel a little less ignorant.
I love your smileys. I haven’t used them on the main part of my page yet. I just got started with it, but I am using them on my private page (diary). Thanks much
Thanks for the comment!

I’m glad you like them.
