Description
Tango Smileys Extended (TSE) disables the built-in WordPress smileys and extends the number of available smileys from 18 to 202. The extended smileys can be input using standard emoticon shorthand, or through the CTI (Click to Insert) interface introduced in TSE 2.0.0b. Smileys in comments is also supported, and may be inserted using the standard emoticon shorthand or through the CTI interface introduced in TSE 2.0.1b. MCEComments is now supported as of TSE 2.5.2.0.
Installation
Installation of TSE is easy. Simply follow these directions:
- Upload
tango-smileys-extendedto the
/wp-content/plugins/directory. - Activate the plugin through the
Pluginsmenu in WordPress. - If this is your first installation of TSE, you may enable TSE on the TSE admin page at Settings » Tango Smileys Extended. If you are upgrading, TSE retains its settings from the previous installation. You may change the options on the TSE admin page at Settings » Tango Smileys Extended.
- The comment CTI interface is not supported by some themes, but standard emoticon shorthand will still work. See the FAQs for information on adding support for CTI to your theme. Comment CTI may be disabled on the TSE Options page.

Hey, I Installed the updated TSE plugin and now there is no show of the smiley pictures under the Leave Comment Box, previous version seemed to work perfectly with my Theme (Atahualpa)
PS! I went back to the previous version, and it works, so there must be a slight glitch with the NEW version
There was a typo in version 2.5.6.0, which is now fixed in version 2.5.6.1. You can safely update to the newest version when it becomes available (within 15 minutes).
Thanks, I will try it!
Hello!
Sorry, but I have one more question!
When I type the smiles, they are out of line and generate a huge space between lines of text of the comment. = (
Are solutions?
Thanks!!!
This one is a piece of cake!
Just replace the code I gave you before with this code:
margin: 0px;
padding: 1px;
vertical-align: bottom;
}
You can delete
vertical-align: bottom;if you don’t want the smileys to be centered with the text. This will still fix the spacing problem.U are very very very thoughtful!!!!
Thanks a LOT!!!
Everything is PERFECT NOW!!!!!
Kisses!
Hello, I loved it!
But I used the: #tseCTIsmileys-comment img {
padding: 1px;
}
And it don’t solve the problem! Can u help me? =(
Thanks!
Your spacing is caused by both padding and margins. Use the following code to fix your spacing:
padding: 1px;
margin: 0px;
}
If you want more space between the smileys, just increase the padding.
THANKS A LOTTT!!! Now i’ts PERFECT!!!
Is it possible to enable the smiley plugin in posts only and not in pages?
If there is a simple way to hack, please tell me~ Thank you so much!
I’ll look into it, but I’m fairly certain I’m not going to find a way to separate handling of posts and pages, since WordPress uses the same loop to display both. I’ll let you know if I find something or not.
I would really appreciate that. Thank you! I’ll check back here from time to time.
Unfortunately, there is no Post / Page separation in WordPress, so disabling TSE in pages isn’t going to be an easy task.
I do have an idea, but it’s going to take me some time to get it worked out, but I’ll keep you updated.
Would you like me to send you an email if I can get the separation working, or would you prefer to just check back later?
Never mind, I figured it out
I’ll have the separation available in the next release – which should be in a few days or so.
Nice plugin. I love this plugin
i love this but i been trying for hours to get it to work. i can not click on the smilies ..i am running it on my test site to see what the issue is. I would love to get this solved and i can send you login details or anything you need .thanks. i will be willing to pay small amount also .
I see two things that may be causing an issue:
I recommend disabling WPGrins and unchecking the Enable CTI for: Comments box. If it still doesn’t work after that, let me know and I’ll take another look.
okay i have done what you wanted. If you need other access please let me know. I am unsure. i have kept working on this.
I found the problem.
More than one element in your template has an id of comment.
If you open your
comments.phpfile and search for id=”comment”, you will find a div with an id of “comment”. Change this to “comments” and this will fix your issue. I’m pretty sure.If this doesn’t work, I’ll take another look, but I think this is what the problem is.
no it still is having issue and not sure where …i am so sorry for asking so much help.
well let me know if you can help more.
Oh sorry this didnt say still not working. Sorry for asking so many questions ..just upset i bought a theme and doesnt work with it .
I will help you get this sorted out.
Are you familiar with editing theme files?
OMG you was right …it was that …this was NOT listed in the comment.php. I actually looked over all the files and found it in single.php , (single post). I just changed to <div id="comments" and it started working right away. Also another mod that I been wanting finally worked too all cause i changed that.. .thank you so much ..i dont care i had to actually hunt for the div that is fine with me. Can you email me ..i would like to pay you some for this ..i know it probably wont be as much as you wanted but heck it got everything working that was broke before.
sorry have to post again but you are the man … no one else with a mod that was having this issue would help and i knew it was something sillie …I thank you so much again and you are really good. Heck wish you did custom themes. I await your email with paypal id. You are actually that only person that was willing to help and this was not an issue with your plugin at all. You are one of those rare people that just want to help. I dont know how to thank you ..but I will sing your praise for a long time on helping me learn .
i donated 15.00 …thank you so much . Wish it could be more.
Thank you for the donation!!!
I’m glad everything worked out! If you run into any more problems, just let me know and I’ll be more than glad to help.
Hello,at first many thanks for this cute plugin- I love it!!
But I still have a problem and was going through all your posts to get an answer,but I can´t get my smiley working-if I click they don´t work!
I can´t insert a smiley,so could you let me know what I can do please??
Thanks in advance
Regards from Germany

TSE may need to have its options set before you can use it, so follow these steps and let me know if it works:
Hopefully this works for you, but let me know if it doesn’t and I’ll take another look.
This is awesome! I’m gonna use it!
This is a great plugin! I love the adorable smilies.
The only problem I really have is that I don’t use the WYSIWYG editor. I use the HTML edit view one, and sadly, I don’t get the smilies to show up that way. If there’s a way to make it so that when one uses that version, to get a “button” to show up, that would be awesome.
Are you talking about the post editor? I just want to make sure so I look at the right thing.
Yeah, I mean the post editor
I just put this plugin on my blog, it surely nice. Thank you for the great works.
I just made some modification by removing “Click to Insert Smiley” text, well, it just look unsuitable for my site somehow, and I guess people already knew if that smiley is for the commenting section so the “guiding” text was not neccesary in firts place according to my point of view. I wish you don’t mind using this modification of your work on my blog.
Thanks…
You’re welcome, and the plugin is yours to modify as you see fit!
I see your CTI very nice, how could you made the space between the so comprised
I’m sorry, I don’t understand the question
The space between icons on CTI like close to another (maybe less pixel between them), and I’m using it like have space of two or more pixel betwenn the CTI icons.
It that the effect of a theme, or maybe some setting on the plugin.
Trims.
Now I understand!
The reason the smileys are spaced so far apart is that they follow the CSS style for your theme, and your theme has a 5px padding for images. To bring the CTI smileys closer together, just add the following to your theme’s
style.cssfile:padding: 1px;
}
This will change the spacing between the CTI smileys without affecting any other images on your site
Thanks for a great plugin and all the work that goes into creating and maintaining it! Much appreciated.
Fantastic extension. It works perfect on my website. My only questions is how do I control the size of the Iframe. Currently, only top half of the bottom row of icons is displayed. This feature adds one more way for the person posting a comment to stylize his post.
I would like to know how to go about adding larger smileys.
The TSE admin page has a place to change the height of the container, and larger smileys are available at the top of this page. Just overwrite the original smileys with the larger ones and you’re done!
Thnx alot for your great plugin ,
but I have a problem , Smilies not clickable
, what’s PHP modification can I made ???
plz Help , Thanx in advance
I think I have a solution.
Go to the Tango Smileys Extended Options page (Settings » Tango Smileys Extended) and make sure Enable CTI for: Comments is checked and that Enable CTI for: MCEComments is not checked.
Let me know if this doesn’t work and I’ll see what I can do.
thanxxxxxx alot
